A board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine surgery, Dr. Gary Waslewski has been practicing in the Phoenix area for 14 years. He is a strong believer in treating all patients with the same superior level of care, no matter what their issues may be. It’s all about getting patients back in the game.
Dr. Waslewski’s specialties are in surgery for the throwing elbow and shoulder, including a vast experience with Tommy John surgery. He is also the leading Arizona orthopedist in the field of complex hip arthroscopy. In addition to complex surgery, Dr. Waslewski’s practice includes surgical treatment of all sports and weekend-warrior injuries such as rotator cuff problems, labral tears, ACL and meniscus tears, Achilles ruptures, and routine hip arthroscopic procedures such as for femoral acetabular impingement.
Dr. Waslewski attended college at Princeton University before going on to medical school at the Medical College of Virginia. His internship and residency took place at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center. He completed fellowship training in sports surgery, including complex shoulder and knee ligament problems, at the prestigious American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama, under James Andrews, M.D., and William G. Clancy, Jr., M.D.
Sports and Community Involvement
In addition to being the team physician for the Arizona Cardinals, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Arizona Coyotes, Dr. Waslewski is an orthopedic consultant for the Chicago Cubs and San Francisco Giants. Plus, he travels with the USA Hockey team, providing both orthopedic and medical care for the players, coaches, and staff. Dr. Waslewski also provided medical coverage for the Franklin Templeton ATP/WTA Tennis Tournaments held annually at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess resort, before the tournaments were relocated to Las Vegas.
Along with Dr. Dean, Dr. Waslewski is the co-medical director for the Scottsdale High School District Athletics program. And, he acts as a teaching consultant for the Arthrex Hip Arthroscopy Center, instructing hip arthroscopy teaching labs for other orthopedic surgeons from across the country.
