Dr. Juntunen was born and raised in Oklahoma. She received her undergraduate degree in Zoology/Biomedical Sciences at the University of Oklahoma. Upon graduation, she entered the physical therapy program at OU. Almost immediately, she realized a desire to pursue an even more comprehensive knowledge of the human body. A true Sooner at heart, she attended the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine.
Dr. Juntunen completed her residency training in Family Medicine at Scottsdale Healthcare. She served as Chief Resident in her final year. During residency, Dr. Juntunen assisted with high school football coverage for several valley schools. As a resident, she was an active member of the American Medical Society of Sports Medicine and American College of Sports Medicine.
After residency, Dr Juntunen was privileged to complete a Sports Medicine fellowship at the Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, Alabama. She served as team physician for Samford University and Homewood High School and provided medical coverage for the Birmingham Barons, Birmingham Southern University, Birmingham Mercedes marathon, and Alabama Ballet. She had the opportunity to provide pre-participation exams for the USA National Cheer Team prior to their gold medal performance at the 2016 International Cheer Union World Championships in Orlando, Florida.
Sports and Community Involvement
Dr. Juntunen cares for athletes and active individuals of nearly every age. Her goal is to safely return athletes to play and enable her patients to continue enjoying the activities they love. She is the team physician for Arcadia High School. She has a particular interest in endurance sports and wants to help these athletes safely push their limits and achieve their goals. She specializes in non-operative orthopedic care, including fractures, osteoarthritis, chronic and acute overuse injuries, strains, sprains, bursitis, stress fractures and tendinopathies. Procedures provided include corticosteroid injections, viscosupplementation, ultrasound guided injections, PRP (platelet rich plasma) injections, Tenex procedure, hydrodilation for frozen shoulder, and percutaneous brisement for calcific tendonitis.
It was during residency that Dr. Juntunen fell in love with Arizona. From an early age, she enjoyed sports and the outdoors. She is self-proclaimed, “solar powered.” Living in the valley of the sun introduced her to a year-round outdoor playground, where she was introduced to her now favorite hobby – cycling. When she isn’t working, you will inevitably find Dr. Juntunen pedaling her way through the valley.
